El Salvador pictures in Vice Versa magazine

This month’s Vice Versa (a Dutch professional magazine about development aid) features two photographs that I took in El Salvador, last February.I was visiting El Salvador with fellow filmmaker Thomas Hurkxkens. We were shooting a short film for the Dutch development organisation Cordaid. Mejicanos is a notorious district in El Salvador’s capital city, San Salvador. Rivaling gangs like the infamous MARA SALVATRUCE and MS18 control the streets, paralyzing the already impoverished society with extreme violence. In the heart of this district, the Mejicanos City Park is being developed. The construction of sports facilities, community buildings and a farm must strengthen the local communities’s social cohesion and create a safer living environment.
